These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and LocatePets ("LocatePets," "we," "our," or "us") governing your access to and use of our website, mobile applications, Scout AI assistant, and all related services (collectively, the "Services").
By accessing or using our Services — including creating an account, submitting a pet report, using Scout, or joining our early access list — you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference.

Some features of LocatePets require you to create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep your account information up to date.

You must notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access to your account. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your credentials.
Each person may maintain only one active account. Creating multiple accounts to circumvent bans, rate limits, or other restrictions is prohibited.
We require email verification to access all platform features. This helps ensure the integrity of our community and reduces fraudulent activity.
You agree to use LocatePets only for lawful purposes and in a manner consistent with these Terms. You must not:
Zero tolerance: Any use of LocatePets to facilitate animal cruelty, theft of pets, or fraud will result in immediate account termination and may be reported to law enforcement.
You are solely responsible for the accuracy of any pet report you submit. By submitting a report, you represent that the information is truthful and that you are the pet's owner or an authorized representative, or that you genuinely found an animal and are acting in good faith to facilitate its return.
Lost and found pet reports are publicly visible to maximize the chance of reunion. By submitting a report, you consent to your pet's information, photos, and generalized location being displayed publicly on our platform and shared by community members.
By submitting content to LocatePets — including photos, descriptions, and messages — you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, reproduce, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating and improving our Services. This license ends when you delete the content or your account.
We reserve the right to remove any report or content that violates these Terms, is reported as fraudulent, or is otherwise harmful to our community, without prior notice.
When a pet is found, you agree to mark your report as resolved promptly. Leaving false active reports misleads the community and wastes volunteers' time. Repeated failure to resolve reports may result in account suspension.
Scout is an AI assistant designed to help with pet recovery. She is a powerful tool, but she is not infallible. Please read these terms carefully before relying on Scout's guidance.
Scout provides general guidance, suggestions, and information to assist in pet recovery efforts. Scout's responses are generated by artificial intelligence and may not always be accurate, complete, or applicable to your specific situation. Scout's advice does not constitute professional veterinary, legal, or emergency services guidance.
Scout is not a substitute for emergency services. If an animal is in immediate danger, injured, or requires urgent veterinary care, contact your local animal control, emergency veterinary clinic, or the appropriate authorities directly. Do not rely on Scout in life-threatening situations.
You agree to use Scout only for pet recovery-related purposes. You must not:
As described in our Privacy Policy, Scout does not retain conversation history between sessions. Each session with Scout starts fresh. We are not responsible for any loss of information you shared in a previous session.
Scout may occasionally produce inaccurate information. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy or reliability of Scout's responses. You assume all risk associated with relying on Scout's guidance.
You may optionally offer a reward through our platform for the return of a lost pet. By posting a reward, you agree to honor the stated amount upon the safe return of your pet. LocatePets facilitates reward communications but is not a party to the reward agreement between you and a finder.
Rewards are paid directly between users. LocatePets does not hold, escrow, or guarantee reward payments. We are not responsible for disputes between pet owners and finders regarding rewards.
Attempting to claim a reward fraudulently — including falsely claiming to have found a pet — is strictly prohibited and may result in account termination and legal action.
LocatePets offers optional premium subscription plans with enhanced features. Subscription fees are billed in advance on a recurring basis. By subscribing, you authorize us to charge your payment method on each billing cycle until you cancel. All fees are non-refundable except as required by law or as stated in our refund policy.
LocatePets provides in-app messaging to facilitate communication between pet owners, finders, and volunteers. By using our messaging feature, you agree to:
We reserve the right to review flagged messages for safety and policy compliance. We will not read messages unless a report of abuse is filed or we are required to do so by law.
Core features of LocatePets are free to use, including creating pet profiles, submitting reports, and receiving community alerts. No credit card is required for the free plan.
Premium features may include advanced AI matching, priority alerts, unlimited photos, and enhanced Scout capabilities. Pricing is displayed within the app and may change with notice.
You may cancel your subscription at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will not be charged for the following period. No partial refunds are provided for unused time in the current period.
Subscription fees are generally non-refundable. If you believe you have been charged in error, contact us within 14 days of the charge. We will review your request and may issue a refund at our discretion.
All content, features, and functionality of LocatePets — including but not limited to software, design, graphics, logos, text, and the Scout AI system — are owned by LocatePets and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works without our express written permission.
You retain ownership of the content you submit to LocatePets. By submitting content, you grant us the license described in Section 5. You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to all content you submit and that it does not infringe any third-party intellectual property rights.
If you provide us with feedback, suggestions, or ideas about our Services, you grant us the right to use that feedback without compensation or attribution to you.
Our Services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that:
LocatePets is a platform that facilitates community connection. We are not responsible for the actions or inactions of any user, volunteer, shelter, or other third party using our platform.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, LocatePets and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages — including but not limited to loss of profits, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses — arising from:

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, for any violation of these Terms, conduct that harms our community, or any reason we deem appropriate in our sole discretion. We will make reasonable efforts to notify you unless prohibited by law or if doing so would compromise the safety of others.
Upon termination, your right to use our Services ceases immediately. Active pet reports associated with your account will be removed. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination — including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution — shall survive.
Before filing any formal legal claim, you agree to contact us and attempt to resolve the dispute informally. Most concerns can be resolved quickly by reaching out to our support team. We will make a good-faith effort to resolve disputes within 30 days of receiving written notice.
If informal resolution fails, any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or our Services shall be resolved by binding individual arbitration, not in a class action or class arbitration. Arbitration shall be conducted by a mutually agreed-upon arbitration service under its applicable rules.
You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against LocatePets. All claims must be brought in your individual capacity only.
Either party may seek emergency injunctive or equitable relief from a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent irreparable harm while arbitration is pending.
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. To the extent court proceedings are permitted under these Terms, you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in California.
